New Perl 6 book announced

I see a new Perl 6 book has been announced. It sounds quite interesting, the title is 'Designing Perl 6', and it is an explanation of the design methodology which is being used to decide which new language features will be in Perl 6. This should be an interesting insight into the minds of the Perl 6 designers.

I've snagged a copy of the cover artwork, which you can find here.

I've also a higher resolution version which you can find here (152k)

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

Since the Camel is named 'Amelia', perhaps the chimera should be named after my great aunt Alice whom this creature resembles. Or maybe switch-up and use a guys name in which case 'Humperdink' in really the obvious choice. :) We should sell t-shirts via ebay or cafepress for a P5 pumpkin whisky emergency fund :) The whisky has ben getting drained at a pretty furious clip around here lately.

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

Edmond Rostand, in "Cyrano de Bergerac" (I,4), makes up a grotesque creature called Hippocampelephantocamelos, pedantic and hypernasal. Not only is this a great name, but also it matches /camel/. You'll just have to pastiche the colophon with the same talent than for the cover...

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

Now you've got me wanting one. Any chance of getting a hi-res version of the animal without the faux book cover stuff?

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

Still relevant. They are never going to finish that thing. Love the book cover.

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

heheh, it's getting toward the middle of 2005 a.d., and that cover is still accurate. Maybe we have a finished GNU/Hurd or next Debian release before Perl 6.

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

Hello, six years since my snarky comment, just popped back to put in another:  this cover is still accurate, Perl 6 design not done yet even though people have made implementations of the unfinished spec like Rakudo.  Larry Wall continues to put everything including kitchen sink into it.  Imagine a Gerber multi-tool with  fold-out basketball, blowtorch, wastebasket and blender.

Re: New Perl 6 book announced

Ah yes, yet again I return to flog the dead Perl 6 horse.  A decade since this funny joke posted, and 13 years since Perl 6 design started, and still Larry goofs around.  It is the Undead Language, run for your life!

Notes on Perl 6 Goodness

Through a circuitous route (see my earlier comments on lack of focus) I found this Review of "Essential Perl 6" by Piers Cawley. For those of you who don't know, Piers writes the weekly Perl 6 Summaries. He gives the book high marks. His review itself
